LLM BT:

From October 2005 to October 2007, ICGS offered the master program LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions (Focus on China, ASEAN and the EU) in cooperation with the Law Faculty at the University of Hamburg. The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

The program provided the legal basis for international transactions between Asia (in particular China) and Europe (in particular Germany) including dispute resolution and avoidance. It integrated modern academic teaching and practical training in law firms or companies. With its cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUH), the LL.M. Program received an additional attractive feature. In 2007, lecturers from the CUH, together with selected Hamburg lecturers, offered a 10-days Hamburg-Hong Kong Academy on Chinese Trade and Investment Law.

The LL.M. Program Asian-European Business Transactions had been an immediate success and was thus particularly praised by Hamburg's Senator of Justice at the program's first graduation ceremony in October 2006. Numerous renowned law firms such as Lovells or White & Case were involved as internship and/or faculty partners, and the Hamburg Bar - the regional representation of all lawyers in Hamburg, in German "Hanseatische Rechtsanwaltskammer" - ensured that apart from excellent theoretical knowledge, the LLM graduates also possess the relevant practical experiences necessary to enter the international job market. Graduates work in science (PhD studies or special projects), law firms (as lawyers or consultants) and law departments of European and Asian companies.

Program modules covered the following areas:

  • Structure and Types of International Contractual Collaborations
  • Organizational and Financial Structure of International Transactions
  • Governmental Regulations and Mandatory Law
  • Design of International Contract Negotiations
  • International Dispute Management
  • Hamburg-Hong Kong Academy on Chinese Trade and Investment Law
Due to a wide range of lecturers of different Universities, the Max Planck Institute for Foreign Private Law and Private International Law, Bucerius Law School as well as lecturers of well known law firms, "LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions" offered not only theoretical knowledge about handling international transactions but also first hand insights and experiences of lawyers working in this field.

We would like to thank all faculty members and program participants for their excellent cooperation.

ICGS Promotion Event in Korea

17.06.2003

ICGS at ?German World Exposition 2003? in Seoul (June 5-8, 2003)
The "German World 2003? was the most ambitious German "Leistungsschau" in Korea to date. In one of the world?s most modern exhibition halls German companies presented goods and services ?made in Germany? to the Korean public. The "German World 2003" also served as a platform for the education exhibition "Study & Research Fair". This education fair presented leading German universities and research institutions as well as major local representatives such as the DAAD Information Center in Seoul, the German Embassy and the local Goethe Institute.
ICGS presented its interdisciplinary graduate programs and related services to Korean students, providing them with first-hand information about study programs, admission requirements and language courses. Several company officials and university managers asked for detailed information about ICGS? executive training opportunities and showed a vivid interest in acquiring a better understanding of European politics, economics and culture. Dr. Udo Thelen, ICGS' Executive Director, also had the opportunity of reaching out to the larger Korean public in a national radio and TV broadcast. Last but not least the thing students as well as top level executives showed interest in: They all wanted to find out more of what Hamburg has to offer off campus including its famous nightlife...

Autumn School in German and European Studies

03.06.2003

'Economics and Management'
ICGS will hold its third School in German and European Studies from October 13 to 17, 2003. Focus will be 'Economics and Management'.

School Description:
The European economy involves a variety of levels, ranging from labor markets to foreign direct investment, trade, institutional harmonization, fiscal policy coordination and monetary union. The integration of the goods market and factor markets are two examples of developments to be concentrated on in the upcoming Autumn School at ICGS.

The course follows a dual strategy, beginning with the examination of theoretical issues arising in each of the above-mentioned areas. European applications regarding relevant economic history, current institutional framework, observed effects of liberalization on trade and income patterns and the corresponding obstacles will be addressed.

An important part will also be dedicated to case studies and the training of practical management skills. The School will be taught by experts from various departments of the University of Hamburg and by experienced practitioners from relevant business areas.

Please contact Nina Smidt at ICGS for registration.
