MIBE:

From October 2004 to October 2008, ICGS offered the dual-degree-program Master/MBA International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus in cooperation with the University of Hamburg, Fudan University and the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies (IAS). The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

Participants were provided with excellent education in the areas of modern economic theory, management practices and tools, as well as with political and cultural knowledge required for Greater China on an interdisciplinary level and, upon successful completion of the program, were awarded a Master's Degree by the University of Hamburg and an MBA Degree by Fudan University. Graduates of the program are well-suited for upper management positions in multinational companies or consultancies.

The first two trimesters of the MIBE China Focus were taught in Hamburg at the International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) of Hamburg University, the third directly at the School of Management of Fudan University in Shanghai. Program modules covered the following areas:

Chinese Politics & Culture

Internationally recognized faculty, lecturers and experienced practitioners carried out tailor-made courses, workshops, case studies and practical exercises. The course language was English.

With its Montblanc Initiative for Chinese European leadership development, Hamburg's global luxury firm Montblanc International supports Chinese-German and Asian-European economic relations. Each year, the best graduate of the dual degree program "Master/MBA of International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus" was presented with the Montblanc Excellence Award for Outstanding Student Achievement. The award winner received a special "Graduation Fountain Pen" from Montblanc, which is only produced once a year, as well as an invitation to visit the company's headquarters in Hamburg.

Von Oktober 2006 bis Oktober 2008 koordinierte das ICGS das einjährige internationale Masterprogramm "Europäisches Wirtschaftsrecht und Management - Fokus Mittel- und Osteuropa" in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Recht der Wirtschaft der Universität Hamburg, der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg der Andrassy Universität in Budapest und der Handelskammer Hamburg an.

Ziel des Programms war die Ausbildung exzellenter internationaler Studierender in den Bereichen des Europäischen Wirtschaftsrechts und der Betriebswirtschaftslehre in Form aufeinander abgestimmter Module sowie die Vermittlung einer Mittel- und Osteuropakompetenz. Programmteilnehmer erwarben Kenntnisse in den Bereichen des Europäischen Wirtschaftsrechts, der Betriebswirtschaftslehre europäischer Unternehmen und erhielten eine Einführung in verschiedene nationale Rechtsgebiete mittel- und osteuropäischer Staaten. Daneben wurde während des dritten Trimesters in St. Petersburg das Modul Interkulturelles Rechts- und Wirtschaftsmanagement unterrichtet und in Budapest das Mosul Ökonomische Analyse des Rechts.

Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen des Studiengangs sollten damit gezielt auf eine international ausgerichtete Tätigkeit in Unternehmen, Organisationen, Forschungseinrichtungen und politischen Ämtern mit Bezug zu Mittel- und Osteuropa vorbereitet werden. Die ersten beiden Trimester fanden in Hamburg statt, das letzte wahlweise in St. Petersburg oder Budapest. Die Dozentenschaft des Programms bestand aus erfahrenen Praktikern und exzellenten Akademikern aus Wirtschaft, Recht und Politik.

Das Vollzeistudienprogramm erforderte 60 ECTS-Punkte. Bei erfolgreichem Abschluss wurde neben dem Master-Abschluss der Universität Hamburg ein zusätzlicher Abschluss der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg verliehen.

Die Alumni des ICGS werden ab 1. Januar 2009 von der Alumni-Verwaltung der Universität Hamburg betreut.

From October 2005 to October 2007, ICGS offered the master program LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions (Focus on China, ASEAN and the EU) in cooperation with the Law Faculty at the University of Hamburg. The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

The program provided the legal basis for international transactions between Asia (in particular China) and Europe (in particular Germany) including dispute resolution and avoidance. It integrated modern academic teaching and practical training in law firms or companies. With its cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUH), the LL.M. Program received an additional attractive feature. In 2007, lecturers from the CUH, together with selected Hamburg lecturers, offered a 10-days Hamburg-Hong Kong Academy on Chinese Trade and Investment Law.

The LL.M. Program Asian-European Business Transactions had been an immediate success and was thus particularly praised by Hamburg's Senator of Justice at the program's first graduation ceremony in October 2006. Numerous renowned law firms such as Lovells or White & Case were involved as internship and/or faculty partners, and the Hamburg Bar - the regional representation of all lawyers in Hamburg, in German "Hanseatische Rechtsanwaltskammer" - ensured that apart from excellent theoretical knowledge, the LLM graduates also possess the relevant practical experiences necessary to enter the international job market. Graduates work in science (PhD studies or special projects), law firms (as lawyers or consultants) and law departments of European and Asian companies.

Asian-European Business Transactions" offered not only theoretical knowledge about handling international transactions but also first hand insights and experiences of lawyers working in this field.

Work and Structure of non-governmental organizations in Germany Eine Delegation von sechs chinesischen Topmanagern, Journalisten und Regierungsbeauftragten nahm vom 10. bis zum 11. Juni 2004 am International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) der Universität Hamburg an einem hochkarätigen Expertenseminar teil. Die Gruppe erhielt einen Einblick in aktuelle Entwicklungen im Bereich ?Work and Structure of non-governmental organizations in Germany?. Im Rahmen des Programms referierten unter anderem Frau Dr. Mary Papaschinopoulou, Leiterin der Brüsseler Vertretung der IHK Nord, zum Thema ?Lobbying and fundraising: strategic planning and tools? und Frau Dr. Birgit Weiher, Partnerin der Sozietät european law consulting zum Thema ?History and development of non-governmental organizations in Germany?. Das Expertenseminar war Teil eines zweiwöchigen Schulungsangebotes, welches von der Heinrich Böll Stiftung in Kooperation mit führenden deutschen Hochschulen und Einrichtungen organisiert wurde. Cooperation with Haifa University	10.06.2004
Zweiter deutsch-israelischer Workshop ?Education, Multiculturalism, and the Empowerment of Minority Groups: The Israeli and German Experiences? war das Thema des zweiten, von der Zeit-Stiftung geförderten Gemeinschaftsprojekts des Center for Multiculturalism and Educational Research der Universität Haifa und des International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) der Universität Hamburg. An dem dreitägigen Workshop in Haifa (01.06. ? 03.06.2004) nahmen als Vertreter der Universität Hamburg Prof. Dr. Rosemarie Mielke sowie vier ICGS Doktorandinnen teil, zusammen mit neun Mitgliedern der Universität Haifa, darunter Prof. Dr. Majid Al Haj, Leiter des Center for Multiculturalism and Educational Research sowie Prof. Dr. Marylin Safir. Den thematischen Fokus des Workshops bildeten die unterschiedlichen Sichtweisen zur aktuellen Multikulturalismus-Debatte in Israel und Deutschland. Nach einer Einführung von Prof. Al Haj, in der er insbesondere die Notwendigkeit einer holistischen Strategie zur Lösung des jüdisch ? arabischen Konflikts betonte, referierte Prof. Mielke aus sozialpsychologischer Sicht über ethnische Gruppenbeziehungen. Weitere Präsentationen behandelten die Thematik aus politikwissenschaftlicher, sozialwissenschaftlicher, psychologischer sowie erziehungswissenschaftlicher Sicht. Dabei reichten die Beiträge von ?Policing Divided Societies: The relationship between the police and the Arabs in Israel? (Budi Hasisi) über ?Hiding, Silencing, and Lying about American Ethnic and National Identity? (Inke Du Bois) zu ?A Research Project on Educational Strategies in Second Language Classrooms with Minority Groups in Hamburg? (Olga Visbal). Als besonderes Privileg betrachteten die Hamburger Workshopteilnehmer die Möglichkeit, neben der wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit auch Land und Leute intensiver kennenzulernen. One-week Training Program in "Higher Education Management" for 28 Chinese University Presidents and Vice Presidents at ICGS ?We are looking forward to welcoming the ICGS staff in China!?, summarizes one of the participants after successfully completing ICGS? latest Executive Training Program on "Higher Education Management in Germany and Europe". The Chinese delegation included 28 university presidents and vice presidents from various higher education institutions in Shanghai, Beijing and other Chinese cities. The training program was jointly developed, organized and run by the International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) at the University of Hamburg and the Centre International d?Études Pédagogiques (CIEP) in France. Designed as a four-week program, the participants spent one week (May 16 ? 23, 2004) in Hamburg where ICGS offered them a challenging first-hand insight into the areas of German higher education and research, quality management, marketing and fundraising, budgeting and financing as well as human resources management and life-long-learning. Various excursions to selected Hamburg universities, including face-to-face discussions with their German management counterparts, and an attractive tourist program completed the one-week stay in Hamburg. ?This was the first time that such a large group of leading Chinese university representatives visited Germany to gain first-hand information on our higher education system. It provided a unique opportunity for ICGS and Hamburg to further develop the Chinese-German networking?, comments Dr. Udo Thelen, Executive Director of ICGS. The importance of this visit for the city of Hamburg was emphasized by the official reception held by Hamburg?s Senator for Science and Health, Jörg Dräger, PhD, in the Hamburg town hall. Neu: Vorbereitungskurse zur TestDaF Prüfung Der Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache - TestDaF - ist eine weltweit eingesetzte Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang. Ab Sommer 2004 bietet ICGS zwei Vorbereitungskurse zur TestDaF Prüfung an, den ersten für das Niveau Mittelstufe II (02.08.-04.09.2004) und den zweiten fur das Niveau Oberstufe I (23.08.-03.09.2004). Die Intensivkurse finden fünf mal die Woche am Vormittag und Nachmittag statt. Die zentrale Prüfung wird am 16.09.2004 abgenommen.
