MIBE:

From October 2004 to October 2008, ICGS offered the dual-degree-program Master/MBA International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus in cooperation with the University of Hamburg, Fudan University and the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies (IAS). The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

Participants were provided with excellent education in the areas of modern economic theory, management practices and tools, as well as with political and cultural knowledge required for Greater China on an interdisciplinary level and, upon successful completion of the program, were awarded a Master's Degree by the University of Hamburg and an MBA Degree by Fudan University. Graduates of the program are well-suited for upper management positions in multinational companies or consultancies.

The first two trimesters of the MIBE China Focus were taught in Hamburg at the International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) of Hamburg University, the third directly at the School of Management of Fudan University in Shanghai. Program modules covered the following areas:

Business Management
International Business Management with China Focus
Managing International Markets
Chinese Politics & Culture

Internationally recognized faculty, lecturers and experienced practitioners carried out tailor-made courses, workshops, case studies and practical exercises. The course language was English.

With its Montblanc Initiative for Chinese European leadership development, Hamburg's global luxury firm Montblanc International supports Chinese-German and Asian-European economic relations. Each year, the best graduate of the dual degree program "Master/MBA of International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus" was presented with the Montblanc Excellence Award for Outstanding Student Achievement. The award winner received a special "Graduation Fountain Pen" from Montblanc, which is only produced once a year, as well as an invitation to visit the company's headquarters in Hamburg.

Von Oktober 2006 bis Oktober 2008 koordinierte das ICGS das einjährige internationale Masterprogramm "Europäisches Wirtschaftsrecht und Management - Fokus Mittel- und Osteuropa" in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Recht der Wirtschaft der Universität Hamburg, der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg der Andrassy Universität in Budapest und der Handelskammer Hamburg an.

Ziel des Programms war die Ausbildung exzellenter internationaler Studierender in den Bereichen des Europäischen Wirtschaftsrechts und der Betriebswirtschaftslehre in Form aufeinander abgestimmter Module sowie die Vermittlung einer Mittel- und Osteuropakompetenz. Programmteilnehmer erwarben Kenntnisse in den Bereichen des Europäischen Wirtschaftsrechts, der Betriebswirtschaftslehre europäischer Unternehmen und erhielten eine Einführung in verschiedene nationale Rechtsgebiete mittel- und osteuropäischer Staaten. Daneben wurde während des dritten Trimesters in St. Petersburg das Modul Interkulturelles Rechts- und Wirtschaftsmanagement unterrichtet und in Budapest das Mosul Ökonomische Analyse des Rechts.

Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen des Studiengangs sollten damit gezielt auf eine international ausgerichtete Tätigkeit in Unternehmen, Organisationen, Forschungseinrichtungen und politischen Ämtern mit Bezug zu Mittel- und Osteuropa vorbereitet werden. Die ersten beiden Trimester fanden in Hamburg statt, das letzte wahlweise in St. Petersburg oder Budapest. Die Dozentenschaft des Programms bestand aus erfahrenen Praktikern und exzellenten Akademikern aus Wirtschaft, Recht und Politik.

Das Vollzeistudienprogramm erforderte 60 ECTS-Punkte. Bei erfolgreichem Abschluss wurde neben dem Master-Abschluss der Universität Hamburg ein zusätzlicher Abschluss der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg verliehen.

Die Alumni des ICGS werden ab 1. Januar 2009 von der Alumni-Verwaltung der Universität Hamburg betreut.

From October 2005 to October 2007, ICGS offered the master program LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions (Focus on China, ASEAN and the EU) in cooperation with the Law Faculty at the University of Hamburg. The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

The program provided the legal basis for international transactions between Asia (in particular China) and Europe (in particular Germany) including dispute resolution and avoidance. It integrated modern academic teaching and practical training in law firms or companies. With its cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUH), the LL.M. Program received an additional attractive feature. In 2007, lecturers from the CUH, together with selected Hamburg lecturers, offered a 10-days Hamburg-Hong Kong Academy on Chinese Trade and Investment Law.

The LL.M. Program Asian-European Business Transactions had been an immediate success and was thus particularly praised by Hamburg's Senator of Justice at the program's first graduation ceremony in October 2006. Numerous renowned law firms such as Lovells or White & Case were involved as internship and/or faculty partners, and the Hamburg Bar - the regional representation of all lawyers in Hamburg, in German "Hanseatische Rechtsanwaltskammer" - ensured that apart from excellent theoretical knowledge, the LLM graduates also possess the relevant practical experiences necessary to enter the international job market. Graduates work in science (PhD studies or special projects), law firms (as lawyers or consultants) and law departments of European and Asian companies.

Due to a wide range of lecturers of different Universities, the Max Planck Institute for Foreign Private Law and Private International Law, Bucerius Law School as well as lecturers of well known law firms, "LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions" offered not only theoretical knowledge about handling international transactions but also first hand insights and experiences of lawyers working in this field.

Programm-Informationstag am ICGS	24.02.2006
Mit einem Master aus Hamburg in die ganze Welt Unter dem Motto "Master, MBA, LL.M. in Hamburg und in Shanghai, Budapest, St. Petersburg und Toronto" fand am 24. Februar 2006 der Informationstag des ICGS statt. Interessenten aus ganz Deutschland und auch einige internationale Besucher kamen an diesem Tag, um sich über die verschiedenen Masterprogramme in den Bereichen Business und Law zu informieren. Der ICGS-Geschäftsführer Dr. Udo Thelen führte die Besucher durch ein abwechslungsreiches und informatives Programm. Neben Vorträgen von Programmdirektoren und Koordinatoren der vier Masterstudiengänge gab es auch einen Erfahrungsbericht eines MIBE-Absolventen des Jahrgangs 2004/05. Außerdem waren einige der jetzigen Studierenden anwesend, die über das "Studying in an International Classroom" berichteten. Ein besonderes Highlight war der Gastvortrag eines Unternehmensvertreters. Herr Florian Osterloh von Montblanc International verriet, welche Anforderungen die Global Players der Wirtschaft an ihr zukünftiges Personal haben: "Für uns zeichnet sich akademische Exzellenz vor allem durch eine interdisziplinäre Ausbildung aus. Besonders viel Wert wird heute auf einen sehr guten internationalen Abschluss, zum Beispiel einen Master, gelegt." Während der Pause konnten sich die Besucher an diversen Informationstischen über Zulassungsvoraussetzungen für die einzelnen Programme erkundigen und ihre Bewerbungsunterlagen vorprüfen lassen. Nachdem das offizielle Programm beendet war, klang der Tag in einem Informellen Get-Together aus, und die Besucher nutzten die Chance, sich in persönlichen Gesprächen mit Lehrenden, Studierenden und Mitarbeitern der ICGS-Geschäftsstelle auszutauschen. Neben ca. 30 Besuchern aus dem norddeutschen Raum hat der Infotag auch internationale Gäste aus der Schweiz, London und den USA nach Hamburg geholt. Nach dem großen Erfolg ist der nächste Informationstag mit erweiterter Unternehmensbeteiligung für Mitte November 2006 geplant. ICGS at the EU Studies Fair 2006 in Brussels	18.02.2006
Great interest in ICGS' international Master programs On Saturday, February 18, 2006, ICGS exhibited its Graduate Programs at the seventh EU Studies Fair, focusing on programs in EU and International Relations, Business and Law. The one-day fair at the Hilton Hotel in Brussels did not only offer excellent networking opportunities to more than 600 visitors but also some interesting seminars. Anja Soltau, Head of Admissions & Recruitment and Patricia Bencek, Program Manager, really enjoyed answering all questions of the very interested and well-prepared visitors. Together with other leading European academic institutions, such as The London School of Economics, the University of Groningen and Universiteit Maastricht, ICGS presented the following programs: Master/MBA International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus LL.M. Successful start of HIMed fellowship program for Jordan doctors (ICGS/Newmex Consulting)	08.02.2006
Official welcome of first fellows of the Hamburg International Medical Fellowship Program (HIMed) "We are proud and happy to have you with us, Gentlemen! Please feel at home here in Hamburg, one of Europe`s most important cities for health care industry and Germany`s center for relations to the Near and Middle East region." With this warm welcome by Dr. Karl-Joachim Dreyer, President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the first year of the Hamburg International Medical Fellowship Program (HIMed) was officially opened. Hosted by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the reception ceremony also offered speeches by Financial Affairs Senator Dr. Wolfang Peiner, Jordan Honorary Consul and Newmex Managing Director Dr. Axel Goehler and Dr. Emad Al-Barrishi as representative of the 4 Jordan doctors admitted to the 2006 HIMed Program. The start-up period of the HIMed Fellowship Program is funded the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and jointly organized by the International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) and Newmex Consulting GmbH. The Program combines practical training in real-world settings with regular academic background teaching, technical excursions and social get-togethers. In 2006, the following hospitals and research institutions host a HIMed fellow: Asklepios Klinik Altona, Asklepios Klinik St. Georg, Endo-Klinik and the Heinrich-Pette-Institut (HPI). Presentations in the introductory week included workshops by Olympus Winter & Ibe GmbH, Norgenta Life Science Agency and the Heinrich-Pette-Institut (HPI). The Program is designed for a period of four months. Medical doctors who are pursuing a career in hospitals, healthcare institutions and companies and wish to acquire additional practical, scientific and management qualifications to enhance their professional skills (maximum 10 participants) can apply. ICGS auf der China International Education Exhibition 2005	22.11.2005
Auf der internationalen Bildungsmesse "China International Education Exhibition 2005" in Beijing und Shanghai (15.-23.10.2005) war das International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) mit einem Messestand vertreten und beriet chinesische Studierende und Wissenschaftler über das vielfältige Angebot an der Universität Hamburg. Unter dem Slogan "Hamburg Center of Knowledge" trat der Wissenschaftsstandort Hamburg erstmals mit einem gemeinsamen Messestand auf. Teilnehmende Hamburger Einrichtungen waren neben ICGS, die Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH), das Northern Institute of Technology (NIT), die Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften (HAW), die Hamburg School of Logistics (HSL), die Bucerius Law School, die Hochschule für Musik und Theater sowie die Behörde für Wissenschaft und Gesundheit. Gemeinsam mit Staatsrat Dr. Roland Salchow und den Hamburger Vertretern präsentierte die Stellvertretende Geschäftsführerin des ICGS, Dr. Nina Smidt, Studien- und Weiterbildungsmöglichkeiten in Hamburg. Im Mittelpunkt standen die international ausgerichteten Master- und LL.M.-Programme des ICGS für graduierte Studierende sowie Fach- und Führungskräfte aus aller Welt.
