MIBE:

From October 2004 to October 2008, ICGS offered the dual-degree-program Master/MBA International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus in cooperation with the University of Hamburg, Fudan University and the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies (IAS). The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

Participants were provided with excellent education in the areas of modern economic theory, management practices and tools, as well as with political and cultural knowledge required for Greater China on an interdisciplinary level and, upon successful completion of the program, were awarded a Master's Degree by the University of Hamburg and an MBA Degree by Fudan University. Graduates of the program are well-suited for upper management positions in multinational companies or consultancies.

The first two trimesters of the MIBE China Focus were taught in Hamburg at the International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) of Hamburg University, the third directly at the School of Management of Fudan University in Shanghai. Program modules covered the following areas:

Business Economics & Economic Policy
International Business Economics with China Focus
Business Management
International Business Management with China Focus
Managing International Markets
Chinese Politics & Culture

Internationally recognized faculty, lecturers and experienced practitioners carried out tailor-made courses, workshops, case studies and practical exercises. The course language was English.

With its Montblanc Initiative for Chinese European leadership development, Hamburg's global luxury firm Montblanc International supports Chinese-German and Asian-European economic relations. Each year, the best graduate of the dual degree program "Master/MBA of International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus" was presented with the Montblanc Excellence Award for Outstanding Student Achievement. The award winner received a special "Graduation Fountain Pen" from Montblanc, which is only produced once a year, as well as an invitation to visit the company's headquarters in Hamburg.

Von Oktober 2006 bis Oktober 2008 koordinierte das ICGS das einjährige internationale Masterprogramm "Europäisches Wirtschaftsrecht und Management - Fokus Mittel- und Osteuropa" in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Recht der Wirtschaft der Universität Hamburg, der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg der Andrassy Universität in Budapest und der Handelskammer Hamburg an.

Ziel des Programms war die Ausbildung exzellenter internationaler Studierender in den Bereichen des Europäischen Wirtschaftsrechts und der Betriebswirtschaftslehre in Form aufeinander abgestimmter Module sowie die Vermittlung einer Mittel- und Osteuropakompetenz. Programmteilnehmer erwarben Kenntnisse in den Bereichen des Europäischen Wirtschaftsrechts, der Betriebswirtschaftslehre europäischer Unternehmen und erhielten eine Einführung in verschiedene nationale Rechtsgebiete mittel- und osteuropäischer Staaten. Daneben wurde während des dritten Trimesters in St. Petersburg das Modul Interkulturelles Rechts- und Wirtschaftsmanagement unterrichtet und in Budapest das Mosul Ökonomische Analyse des Rechts.

Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen des Studiengangs sollten damit gezielt auf eine international ausgerichtete Tätigkeit in Unternehmen, Organisationen, Forschungseinrichtungen und politischen Ämtern mit Bezug zu Mittel- und Osteuropa vorbereitet werden. Die ersten beiden Trimester fanden in Hamburg statt, das letzte wahlweise in St. Petersburg oder Budapest. Die Dozentenschaft des Programms bestand aus erfahrenen Praktikern und exzellenten Akademikern aus Wirtschaft, Recht und Politik.

Das Vollzeistudienprogramm erforderte 60 ECTS-Punkte. Bei erfolgreichem Abschluss wurde neben dem Master-Abschluss der Universität Hamburg ein zusätzlicher Abschluss der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg verliehen.

Wir bedanken uns bei allen Dozenten und Teilnehmern des Programms für die hervorragende Zusammenarbeit.
Die Alumni des ICGS werden ab 1. Januar 2009 von der Alumni-Verwaltung der Universität Hamburg betreut.

From October 2005 to October 2007, ICGS offered the master program LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions (Focus on China, ASEAN and the EU) in cooperation with the Law Faculty at the University of Hamburg. The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

The program provided the legal basis for international transactions between Asia (in particular China) and Europe (in particular Germany) including dispute resolution and avoidance. It integrated modern academic teaching and practical training in law firms or companies. With its cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUH), the LL.M. Program received an additional attractive feature. In 2007, lecturers from the CUH, together with selected Hamburg lecturers, offered a 10-days Hamburg-Hong Kong Academy on Chinese Trade and Investment Law.

The LL.M. Program Asian-European Business Transactions had been an immediate success and was thus particularly praised by Hamburg's Senator of Justice at the program's first graduation ceremony in October 2006. Numerous renowned law firms such as Lovells or White & Case were involved as internship and/or faculty partners, and the Hamburg Bar - the regional representation of all lawyers in Hamburg, in German "Hanseatische Rechtsanwaltskammer" - ensured that apart from excellent theoretical knowledge, the LLM graduates also possess the relevant practical experiences necessary to enter the international job market. Graduates work in science (PhD studies or special projects), law firms (as lawyers or consultants) and law departments of European and Asian companies.

Due to a wide range of lecturers of different Universities, the Max Planck Institute for Foreign Private Law and Private International Law, Bucerius Law School as well as lecturers of well known law firms, "LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions" offered not only theoretical knowledge about handling international transactions but also first hand insights and experiences of lawyers working in this field.

Neuer ICGS-Studiengang im Versicherungsrecht	24.01.2007
LL.M. Versicherungsrecht (Insurance Law) startet im Oktober 2007 Allgemeines Versicherungsvertragsrecht, alle wichtigen Versicherungssparten der Personen?, Sach- und Haftpflichtversicherung sowie das Seeversicherungs- und das internationale Versicherungsrecht – so facettenreich ist der Themenkatalog eines neuen Studienangebots am International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) der Universität Hamburg. Der neue LL.M.-Studiengang Versicherungsrecht (Insurance Law) vermittelt in 18 Monaten wesentliche Aspekte des Privatversicherungsrechts und berücksichtigt darüber hinaus die speziellen Bedürfnisse der Beratungspraxis. Zugleich erwerben die Teilnehmer die besonderen theoretischen Kenntnisse für die Verleihung der Bezeichnung „Fachanwalt für Versicherungsrecht“. „Das Dozententeam setzt sich aus renommierten Wissenschaftlern und erfahrenen Praktikern zusammen, da dem Versicherungsrecht in der täglichen Rechtspraxis große Bedeutung zukommt“, betont der Hamburger Versicherungswissenschaftler Prof. Dr. Robert Koch vom Seminar für Versicherungswissenschaft an der Fakultät für Rechtswissenschaft der Universität Hamburg. Ihm obliegt die akademische Gesamtleitung des Programms. „Das Versicherungsrecht ist auch für Berufsanfänger sehr attraktiv, die nach Orientierung in einem durch scharfen Wettbewerb gekennzeichneten Arbeits- und Anwaltsmarkt suchen“, wissen die Co-Direktoren Prof. Dr. Manfred Werber und Prof. Dr. Gerrit Winter, beide ebenfalls von der Universität Hamburg. Studiengang-Management und die Betreuung der Teilnehmer liegen beim International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS). Studiengang-Managerin Anja Soltau vom ICGS freut sich besonders über die internationale Ausrichtung des Programms: „Besonderes Gewicht wird dem englischen Recht beigemessen, das in den Seminaren praxisnah gleich auch in englischer Sprache behandelt wird.“ Bewerber müssen über einen ersten Hochschulabschluss sowie einjährige Berufserfahrung verfügen. Die Lehrveranstaltungen starten im Oktober 2007 und finden einmal monatlich in dreitägigen Blockveranstaltungen statt. Nach drei Semestern erhalten die erfolgreichen Teilnehmer den Abschluss eines „Legum Magister“ (LL.M.) und können mit attraktiven Betätigungsfeldern in Anwaltschaft und Unternehmen rechnen. Bewerbungsschluss ist der 30. Juni 2007. Die Studiengebühr beträgt EUR 9.500 EUR und beinhaltet die Teilnahme an allen Lehrveranstaltungen und zusätzlichen extra-curricularen Aktivitäten sowie die Immatrikulationsgebühren an der Universität Hamburg (inkl. Abschlussfeier Master of International Taxation (MITax)	02.12.2006
Absolventen des internationalen Steuerrechts feierlich geehrt Am 2. Dezember 2006 wurde den 23 Absolventen des 5. MITax-Jahrgangs offiziell bescheinigt, dass sie zukünftig zum mittlerweile fast 100 Personen zählenden Netzwerk der MITaxler in Deutschland und Europa gehören werden. In einer feierlichen Zeremonie in den schönsten Räumen der Universität Hamburg würdigten Redner und Gäste den großen individuellen Einsatz, den die Studierenden in den vergangenen 12 Monaten geleistet haben, um die Herausforderungen des internationalen Steuerrechts erfolgreich zu meistern. Als Redner sprachen Prof. Dr. Gerrit Frotscher (MITax-Programmdirektor), Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Weber (Dekan der wirtschafts- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Hamburg) sowie als Festredner Prof. Dr. Dietmar Gosch, Vorsitzender am Bundesfinanzhof. Absolvent Peter Leidl sprach als Klassensprecher des 5. fünften Jahrgangs und ließ die prägendsten Momente von 12 Monaten MITax noch einmal eindrucksvoll Revue passieren. Einen besonderen Dank richtete er dabei an die exzellenten Dozenten des Programms, deren individuelles Wissen und Unterrichtsstile einen großen Eindruck auf die Studierenden gemacht haben. Das MITax Programm des Instituts für Ausländisches und Internationales Finanz- und Steuerwesen (IIFS) wird seit Juni 2006 durch ICGS betreut.
