MIBE:

From October 2004 to October 2008, ICGS offered the dual-degree-program Master/MBA International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus in cooperation with the University of Hamburg, Fudan University and the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies (IAS). The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

Participants were provided with excellent education in the areas of modern economic theory, management practices and tools, as well as with political and cultural knowledge required for Greater China on an interdisciplinary level and, upon successful completion of the program, were awarded a Master's Degree by the University of Hamburg and an MBA Degree by Fudan University. Graduates of the program are well-suited for upper management positions in multinational companies or consultancies.

The first two trimesters of the MIBE China Focus were taught in Hamburg at the International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) of Hamburg University, the third directly at the School of Management of Fudan University in Shanghai. Program modules covered the following areas:

International Business Economics with China Focus
Business Management
International Business Management with China Focus
Managing International Markets
Chinese Politics & Culture

Internationally recognized faculty, lecturers and experienced practitioners carried out tailor-made courses, workshops, case studies and practical exercises. The course language was English.

With its Montblanc Initiative for Chinese European leadership development, Hamburg's global luxury firm Montblanc International supports Chinese-German and Asian-European economic relations. Each year, the best graduate of the dual degree program "Master/MBA of International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus" was presented with the Montblanc Excellence Award for Outstanding Student Achievement. The award winner received a special "Graduation Fountain Pen" from Montblanc, which is only produced once a year, as well as an invitation to visit the company's headquarters in Hamburg.

Von Oktober 2006 bis Oktober 2008 koordinierte das ICGS das einjährige internationale Masterprogramm "Europäisches Wirtschaftsrecht und Management - Fokus Mittel- und Osteuropa" in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Recht der Wirtschaft der Universität Hamburg, der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg der Andrassy Universität in Budapest und der Handelskammer Hamburg an.

Ziel des Programms war die Ausbildung exzellenter internationaler Studierender in den Bereichen des Europäischen Wirtschaftsrechts und der Betriebswirtschaftslehre in Form aufeinander abgestimmter Module sowie die Vermittlung einer Mittel- und Osteuropakompetenz. Programmteilnehmer erwarben Kenntnisse in den Bereichen des Europäischen Wirtschaftsrechts, der Betriebswirtschaftslehre europäischer Unternehmen und erhielten eine Einführung in verschiedene nationale Rechtsgebiete mittel- und osteuropäischer Staaten. Daneben wurde während des dritten Trimesters in St. Petersburg das Modul Interkulturelles Rechts- und Wirtschaftsmanagement unterrichtet und in Budapest das Mosul Ökonomische Analyse des Rechts.

Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen des Studiengangs sollten damit gezielt auf eine international ausgerichtete Tätigkeit in Unternehmen, Organisationen, Forschungseinrichtungen und politischen Ämtern mit Bezug zu Mittel- und Osteuropa vorbereitet werden. Die ersten beiden Trimester fanden in Hamburg statt, das letzte wahlweise in St. Petersburg oder Budapest. Die Dozentenschaft des Programms bestand aus erfahrenen Praktikern und exzellenten Akademikern aus Wirtschaft, Recht und Politik.

Das Vollzeistudienprogramm erforderte 60 ECTS-Punkte. Bei erfolgreichem Abschluss wurde neben dem Master-Abschluss der Universität Hamburg ein zusätzlicher Abschluss der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg verliehen.

Wir bedanken uns bei allen Dozenten und Teilnehmern des Programms für die hervorragende Zusammenarbeit.
Die Alumni des ICGS werden ab 1. Januar 2009 von der Alumni-Verwaltung der Universität Hamburg betreut.

From October 2005 to October 2007, ICGS offered the master program LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions (Focus on China, ASEAN and the EU) in cooperation with the Law Faculty at the University of Hamburg. The full-time program required 60 ECTS credit points.

The program provided the legal basis for international transactions between Asia (in particular China) and Europe (in particular Germany) including dispute resolution and avoidance. It integrated modern academic teaching and practical training in law firms or companies. With its cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUH), the LL.M. Program received an additional attractive feature. In 2007, lecturers from the CUH, together with selected Hamburg lecturers, offered a 10-days Hamburg-Hong Kong Academy on Chinese Trade and Investment Law.

The LL.M. Program Asian-European Business Transactions had been an immediate success and was thus particularly praised by Hamburg's Senator of Justice at the program's first graduation ceremony in October 2006. Numerous renowned law firms such as Lovells or White & Case were involved as internship and/or faculty partners, and the Hamburg Bar - the regional representation of all lawyers in Hamburg, in German "Hanseatische Rechtsanwaltskammer" - ensured that apart from excellent theoretical knowledge, the LLM graduates also possess the relevant practical experiences necessary to enter the international job market. Graduates work in science (PhD studies or special projects), law firms (as lawyers or consultants) and law departments of European and Asian companies.

Due to a wide range of lecturers of different Universities, the Max Planck Institute for Foreign Private Law and Private International Law, Bucerius Law School as well as lecturers of well known law firms, "LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions" offered not only theoretical knowledge about handling international transactions but also first hand insights and experiences of lawyers working in this field.

Europäisches Wirtschaftsrecht und Management - Fokus Mittel- und Osteuropa	29.06.2007
Auf Wiedersehen in St. Petersburg und Budapest Der erste Jahrgang des Masterprogramms „Europäisches Wirtschaftsrecht und Management – Fokus Mittel- und Osteuropa“ hat sich nach ereignisreichen und arbeitsintensiven Monaten von Hamburg verabschiedet. Punkt 12 Uhr wurde am 29. Juni 2007 die letzten Klausur des zweiten Trimesters eingesammelt und damit auch das offizielle Ende des Hamburger Programmteils besiegelt. Neben interessanten Kursen wie Binnenmarktverfassungsrecht, Streiterledigung, Personalmanagement und Internationales Marketing eröffnete sich den Teilnehmern auch ein spannendes Angebot extracurricularer Veranstaltungen, wie z.B. Besuche des Seegerichtshofs, der Bundesbank und die Teilnahme am XI. Hamburger Wirtschaftsrechtstag. Besonders beeindruckt waren die Studierenden von der hochkarätigen Dozentenschaft, darunter z.B. Prof. Dr. Achim Schunder, Leiter der Frankfurter Niederlassung des Verlags C. H. Beck und Prof. Dr. Dietmar Gosch, Vorsitzender Richter am Bundesfinanzhof. Die aus unterschiedlichen west- und osteuropäischen Ländern stammenden Teilnehmer können sich nun ein wenig ausruhen, bevor es dann im August an einer der Partneruniversitäten in Budapest oder St. Petersburg in den Endspurt des Programms geht. MIBE Students Finish 2nd Trimester, Say ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to Hamburg	15.06.2007
The 2006-2007 MIBE class finished its second trimester in Hamburg on June 6, 2007. Trimester highlights included courses in China’s economic reforms and their social and political implications with Prof. Dunren Zhou of Fudan University, Shanghai, and in cross-cultural management with Prof. Nigel Ewington of TCO International Diversity Management as well as a company visit to Otto and a company fair with representatives from several multinational corporations located in Hamburg. Class members will be leaving Hamburg in the next few weeks and will meet up again in July to complete their final trimester together in Shanghai.

Opening Ceremony of the "Hamburg-Hong Kong Academy"	11.06.2007
Hamburg Senator of Justice, Carsten Lüdemann, welcomed guests and participants of the Academy at Hamburg Chamber of Commerce "The master program LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions is an excellent continuation and consolidation of the important and special relationship between Hamburg and Hong Kong." This is how Hamburg's Senator of Justice, Carsten Lüdemann, welcomed students and lecturers of the LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions program and guests at the opening ceremony of the final module "Hamburg-Hong Kong Academy on Chinese Trade and Investment Law". The ceremony was kindly hosted by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, where the newly built "Haus im Haus" offered an ideal atmosphere for this event. Special guests included Prof. Dr. Wolff and Prof. Dr. LING Bing of the School of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Auweter-Kurtz, President of University of Hamburg. The Academy is a joint cooperation of the School of Law (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), the Law Faculty (University of Hamburg), Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH and the International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS). Apart from the Senator and the lecturers from Hong Kong, Dr. Theune of Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH valued the program's focus on Asian and European law from a practitioner's perspective. Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Paschke, program director of the LL.M. Asian-European Business Transactions, appreciated the Academy as an excellent series of lectures combining first hand knowledge from Hong Kong and Europe in both the legal forms of commercial activities and the tax treatment. Intensivkurs und Senatoren-Empfang zum Thema „Chinese Trade and Investment Law“	30.05.2007
ICGS, Fakultät für Rechtswissenschaft und Law School der Chinese University of Hong Kong führen gemeinsame Sommer-Akademie durch Vom 4. bis 10. Juni begrüßt das Institut für Seerecht und Seehandelsrecht der Fakultät für Rechtswissenschaft an der Universität Hamburg zwei Gastdozenten der Law School der Chi-nese University of Hong Kong, Prof. Dr. Lutz-Christian Wolff sowie Prof. Ling Bing. Ge-meinsam mit ihrem Hamburger Kollegen, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Marian Paschke sowie externen Dozenten unterrichten die Hongkonger Wissenschaftler in einer in diesem Jahr zum ersten Mal durchgeführten Sommerakademie „Hamburg – Hong Kong Academy on Chinese Trade and Investment Law“. Finanzielle Unterstützung und inhaltliche Anreicherung erfährt die Akademie von dem Wirtschaftsprüfungs- und beratungsunternehmen Luther Rechtsanwalts-gesellschaft mbH. Die Unterrichtsräume werden durch die Ernst & Young AG gesponsert. Als integraler Bestandteil des LL.M.-Studiengangs „Asian-European Business Transactions“, den die juristische Fakultät unter Federführung von Prof. Paschke und in Kooperation mit dem International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) betreibt, bietet die Academy in Form eines Intensivkurses Vorträge und Diskussionen an insgesamt sieben Kurstagen. Teilnehmer sind die Studierenden des LL.M.-Programms sowie qualifizierte externe Interessenten mit einem ersten Hochschulabschluss und entsprechenden thematischen Vorkenntnissen. Die A-cademy läuft vom 4.-7. sowie vom 11.-13. Juni 2007. Alle Teilnehmer des Intensivkurses werden am Abend des 7. Juni von Justizsenator Carsten Lüdemann begrüßt, womit die Stadt Hamburg zum wiederholten Male ihre Befürwortung und Förderung des zu Grunde liegenden LL.M.-Programms „Asian-European Business Transacti-ons“ unterstreicht.
